Hello to you all,,
I am the current President of the Aquarium Society of Victoria and proud to have led a dedicated committee that has delivered measurable growth, stronger member engagement, and a more active program of events over the past 2 years. Together we have expanded workshops, increased participation in our fish family outreach, and improved member support — and I’m excited to build on that progress for another year. There are many projects started that I would like to see through.

What I bring
- Albeit we are losing some great committee members who have had significant influence on where we are now. I have a clear understanding of what the club needs to continue on this upward trend.
- A clear plan to expand our workshops, improve access to a wider audience, and grow our membership base.
- The partnerships that I have created in such a short time as the President of the Club will most certainly bring reward to upcoming presenters both local and International

My aquarium hobby involvement
- Active content creator on YouTube, sharing care guides, project updates, and club highlights to reach hobbyists beyond our club.
- Hands‑on breeder with an established fish room facility, (that I just tore down to build a new one) actively researching breeding techniques and sharing results with our fishy community.

Vision for the coming year
I will focus on:
1. Expanding our educational program (more hands‑on workshops and online resources / meetings).
2. Strengthening memberships with a view to a new location being high on the list, improving our capacity for meeting growth.
3. Raising the club’s profile through digital outreach, partnerships, and community events so we attract new members and sponsors.

I’m proactive, approachable, and committed to growing both the club and the hobby responsibly. I appreciate your support and look forward to another year of building on what we’ve achieved together.

Vice President

Blake Wall has re-nominated for Vice President

I’ve been part of the ASoV Committee for the past two years, including serving as Vice President for the past 12 months.

My fishkeeping interests are pretty broad, but I particularly enjoy anything nano, fish breeding, 3D printing applications for the hobby, and exploring new technology and ideas that can make fishkeeping easier and more enjoyable.

I’m passionate about continuing to grow what ASoV offers its members. I’d like to build on benefits such as our discounted brine shrimp eggs and fish foods, while looking for even more ways to give members genuine value from being part of the club.

I’m also keen to see more interactive and hands-on meetings, following the success of activities such as our aquascaping workshop. For me, ASoV should be a place where members can learn, have a go, share their knowledge and, most importantly, enjoy being part of the aquarium community.

I’m looking forward to helping ASOV continue to grow, try new things and deliver even more for our members.

Secretary

Natalie "Nat" Wilkinson - has nominated for Secretary

Hi, I’m Nat, and I’m nominating for the position of Secretary of the Aquarium Society of Victoria.

I’ve been involved with ASOV as a committee member and have really enjoyed becoming more involved in the club, particularly through helping with events, marketing, social media and promoting the society within the wider aquarium community.

Outside of ASOV, I’m an avid fish keeper and breeder and run Finfinity Australia, where I breed a wide range of freshwater fish. I also create aquarium-related content on YouTube, with a big focus on sharing knowledge, encouraging people in the hobby and making fish keeping approachable and enjoyable.

I’d love the opportunity to take on the Secretary role and become more involved in the organisation and day-to-day running of ASOV. I’m organised, creative and not afraid to get stuck into a job, and I’d like to help keep the club moving forward while supporting the great community that already exists around it.

Most importantly, I genuinely love this hobby and the people in it, and I’d be proud to contribute to ASOV as Secretary.

Treasurer

Frank Di Giorgio - has nominated for Treasurer

Treasurer nomination - Frank Di Giorgio

My passion for aquarium keeping began as a child when my family set up a small aquarium in our living room. Later, I started my own aquarium, bred angelfish, and after a break from the hobby discovered my passion for planted tanks. More recently, I have enjoyed breeding Apistogramma and keeping a variety of small fish that bring colour and character to my planted aquariums.

I would also like to help strengthen the club by listening to our members, making monthly meetings even more enjoyable, sharing information, increasing our social media presence, building stronger relationships with local aquarium shops, and organising special events that bring members together while attracting new hobbyists.

Through ASOV, I have truly found my community. My vision is to continue building an inspiring society that celebrates the creativity, learning and enjoyment that make fishkeeping such a rewarding hobby.

As a current committee member, I have seen firsthand how much ASOV contributes to learning, connecting like minded people and promoting the hobby. If elected as Treasurer, I would welcome the opportunity to give back to a club that has given me so much. Having run my own business, I have experience managing finances, budgeting and keeping things organised. I see the role as a positive way to support the club and help ensure it continues to grow and provide value for members.

General Committee - In Alphabetical Order

Hi everyone,

I know you may not have seen a lot of me around the club this year, but I have been keeping a close eye on everything that has been happening and I’m looking forward to getting back to more meetings, catching up with everyone and talking fish.

I have been around the aquarium hobby for most of my life. When I was under five, my parents owned the pet shop in Warragul, where I apparently spent plenty of time sleeping under the counter! After they sold the shop, I grew up on a dairy farm, where I developed an early interest in genetics and breeding. I never realised at the time how useful that would become in my fish-keeping journey.

I haven’t kept fish continuously throughout my adult life, but over the past several years I have rediscovered just how much I enjoy the hobby. Fancy Bettas have always had a special place for me, and I now breed Bettas along with a range of other species that I find interesting. I particularly enjoy the genetics and the challenge of working out how to successfully breed different species — although sometimes the fish seem to have their own ideas!

After more than 20 years in retail, I have been fortunate enough to combine my experience with my passion and now work in an aquarium store. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping new hobbyists discover the enjoyment of fish keeping. I also really enjoy working alongside local breeders, troubleshooting problems, sharing knowledge and learning about new species.

I have a particular interest in rare and unusual fish, especially species that haven’t been available in Australia for many years or are no longer able to be imported. I think maintaining these fish within the hobby and passing that knowledge on to future generations is something really worthwhile.

I’m very excited to be considered for a position on the committee and would love the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of the Aquarium Society of Victoria. I’m looking forward to meeting more members, learning about the species you are keeping and breeding, sharing experiences and, most importantly, talking far too much about fish!

I’ve been involved in the aquarium hobby for several years, building my knowledge and experience alongside Nat through keeping and breeding a wide variety of freshwater fish.

I have a particular interest in plecos and catfish and enjoy continuing to learn more about their care, breeding and behaviour. Through the hobby, I’ve gained practical experience and developed a strong appreciation for the aquarium community.

I’m excited about the opportunity to become more involved with ASOV and contribute to the club as part of the Committee. I’d be keen to share my time, ideas and experience, while learning from other members and helping support the club, its members and future events.

Hi folks.
Long-time lurker, first-time poster.
My family has had fish tanks since I was knee-high to a groper. We had goldfish, barramundi, and Mum had an albino tiger Oscar. Yeah, yeah. Boo, hiss. I get it. But this was all before I was ten.
At eleven, Mum married into the Keating family by proxy, and we all started helping out at my new stepsister’s pet shop. She’d inherited it from her mother, who’d inherited it from Grandad Bill. After school meant vacuuming cages, gravel-vaccing fish tanks, and generally doing whatever needed doing.
I was always taught:
“Your tank should be as alive as you are.”

Never really got that as a kid.

Flash forward seven years and I’m working as a park ranger around the Bundaberg region, restoring foreshores, swamps, rivers and sedgelands. That’s where I began to properly understand conservation, and the relationships between land, water, sea, forest and people.
Suddenly, “your tank should be as alive as you are” made a lot more sense.

Skip forward another three years and I’m working at Lots of Fins Aquarium here in Melbourne.

In the nine years since, I’ve spent about that long selectively breeding shrimp, exploring fish nutrition and microbial ecology, developing a frankly unnecessary interest in what makes aquariums tick, and generally annoying you lot about invertebrates.

Not bad for an old man.

You know the rest.

What I bring to the table:
Decades of experience in the aquarium hobby
Years of dedicated scientific research, both professionally and personally
Broad practical knowledge of animal husbandry, aquatic ecology and microbiology
Technical knowledge across a frankly unnecessary number of related and unrelated fields
Good food
A different take on life, dad jokes and more
What I hope to bring to ASoV:
Help expand ASoV’s scientific and educational focus, particularly around evidence-based husbandry and the biology behind what we do
More opportunities to learn not just how something works in an aquarium, but why
Connections across the aquarium industry and other scientific, technical and conservation fields
Speakers, workshops and information that expose members to things they might never have thought to ask about
Information. Most of it relevant... probably.
Most of all, I hope to bring the perspective of someone who’s spent his life around aquariums, but has also been in the thick of swamps, kicking snails from his boots and helping reinvigorate nature 3,000 trees at a time.
