About Mats

Blackwater Aquariums was established in 2020 while Australia was in lockdown.
Our inspiration on starting a botanical/aquarium shop mainly came from the frustration of not being able to import/buy produce from websites like Tannin Aquatics in the USA. So an alternative was needed, after many months of trial and error, we found lots of Aussie botanicals that proved to be very attractive and suitable in a black water system. Now nearly 5 years later we have grown substantially importing quite a few botanicals from overseas, we are proud to say we are Australia’s first and largest aquarium botanical shop. We also are passionate about breeding and keeping dwarf cichlids especially Apistogramma. This will be the topic of tonight’s talk, as we dive into the world of Apistogramma.
