🐟 Aquarium Society of Victoria – July General Meeting 🐟 & Special Resolution

📅 Friday 31 July 2026
🕢 7:30 PM
📍 ASOV Clubrooms, Clifton Hill

Join us for another fantastic evening of fishkeeping, friendship and learning as we welcome one of Australia's most respected native fish experts.

🎤 Guest Speaker – Glenn Briggs

Like many fishkeepers, Glenn began with a small aquarium and a few Goldfish before discovering tropical fish in 1975. It wasn't long before collecting local native fishes sparked a lifelong passion for Australia's incredible freshwater species.

Glenn has been actively involved in the aquarium hobby for over 50 years and is an Honorary Life Member of ANGFA (Australia New Guinea Fishes Association). Following a 13-year banking career, he spent more than two decades working for Australia's two largest ornamental fish importers—Aquarium Industries and Bayfish.

Now retired and living in the Yarra Valley, Glenn still maintains around 50 aquariums and several garden ponds, continuing to breed and enjoy a wide variety of species.

Australian Fish for Unheated Aquariums

Looking to reduce aquarium running costs without sacrificing beautiful fish?

Australia is home to many fascinating freshwater species from temperate and subtropical regions that thrive without aquarium heaters.

Glenn will discuss:
🐠 Australian native fish ideal for unheated aquariums
🌿 Species suitable for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike
💡 Tips for keeping and breeding these fascinating fish
🌈 How these species can provide a colourful and economical alternative to tropical setups

Whether you're interested in native fish or simply want to learn something new, this promises to be an informative and enjoyable presentation.

🗳️ Important Club Business & Special Resolution

Following Glenn's presentation, members will be asked to vote on adopting the Consumer Affairs Victoria Model Rules as the Aquarium Society of Victoria's new Constitution.

The proposed changes modernise our governance, align our Constitution with current Victorian legislation, and help ensure the Society remains well-governed and positioned for the future.

📖 Members are encouraged to review the proposed Constitution before the meeting. It is available on our website:
👉 asov.com.au - Blog

Your vote is important, and we encourage all members to attend.

☕ Standard Meeting Format

✅ Supper & refreshments
✅ Plenty of time to chat with fellow members and browse the fish available
